Pope John Paul II Development HIstoryDear members of the Pope John Paul II Catholic Church and Family, Since 1893, Catholics in Pagosa Country have gathered together formally to worship and to give honor to God. Many of us, as well as many of our ancestors, made continual sacrifices to build our Catholic Community as we experience it today. As the Second Vatican Council stated, the Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian prayer. Pope Benedict XVI in “Sacramentum Cartitas called the Eucharist a mystery to be lived. It is our core identity and mission. In 2005, many parishioners joined together for a Fall Colors Tour and visited churches in Montrose and Grand Junction, Colorado. This tour helped us to envision how a single building would be best for our need for worship, catechesis and community. The “Build Upon This Rock” capital campaign led to ground breaking in May, 2008. The following year, on March 24, 2009, the Pope John Paul II Catholic Church and narthex (gathering area) were dedicated by Bishop Arthur N. Tafoya. In May, 2009, we began construction on a commercial kitchen as part of our new facility. We are all looking forward to many opportunities for fellowship and community in our beautiful new Church. Thank you for being part of the miracle through your prayers and generous gifts of time, talent, treasure, and testimony. It is through your gifts that we were able to build what we need . Please contact me with your questions, comments, or suggestions. Yours in Christ, Reverend Carlos A.
